Sudeshna is a talented performer of North Indian classical music, specializing in the sarod—an instrument with nineteen strings that traces its origins to the Central Asian rabab. The journey of mastering the sarod typically begins at the age of four, and Sudeshna was no exception. She started her training under the guidance of her father, Pandit Shri Krishna Mohan Bhattacharya, a master of both the sarod and the dhrupad vocal style.
Her talent emerged early; at the age of seven, she made her public debut and won numerous music competitions, becoming the youngest recipient of the Indian national scholarship, which she held until she was twenty. At the age of eight, Sudeshna became a disciple of the legendary Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Her exceptional skills earned her prestigious titles such as “Best Indian Musician” in 2001 and “Best Music Performer in India” in 2002, along with the esteemed “Sangeet Visharad” degree from Varanasi.
In 1999, Sudeshna made her European debut, captivating audiences in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway. In 2003, the French Ministry of Culture offered her a ten-year contract, leading her to settle in Marseille and contribute to the local music scene through concerts, teaching, and recordings.
Throughout her career, Sudeshna has performed in over twenty countries, including France, Norway, Portugal, England, and Italy. One of her notable performances was at the Babel Med International Festival in Marseille in 2007, which was broadcast live on 56 French radio stations. In Norway, she spent three years lecturing at the Norwegian Academy of Music, combining her teaching with concerts and international collaborations.
Today, Sudeshna continues to explore new musical horizons, blending Indian classical music with diverse traditions worldwide through concerts, recordings, and collaborations.
