‘Don’t Waste Your Ancestors’ Time’ mixes Afro and Afro-Brazilian grooves with improv and dub. It features many collaborators who bring fresh ideas. Spoken word artist Khadijatou Doyneh (Heliocentrics) contributes. Saxophonist Tony Kofi (Abdullah Ibrahim, Jazz Jamaica, Cymande) also plays. Pianist Sam Leak (Aquarium) adds his touch. Afrobeat legend Dele Sosimi sings in a new way. UK tenor player John Martin, trumpet player Nick Walters (Ruby Rushton), and Nigerian singer Biola Dosunmu (Estuary 17) join too. Trombonist Justin Thurgur (Bellowhead, Dele’s horn arranger) is featured. Tamar Collocutor makes a cameo. The album’s title is inspired by Wole Soyinka. It urges people to honor what their ancestors fought for. It warns against forgetting spiritual roots, being divided, or ignoring modern injustices.
