Chopin University Press - Jehan Alain: Complete Works for Organ (2022)

The three-disc album contains the first recording of all organ works by Jehan Alain in the history of Polish phonography, which was made by the Warsaw organist and teacher Jarosław Wróblewski. It is an attempt at an original discourse with the existing performance tradition and a reference to the new edition of the composer's works, involving, inter alia, taking into account some optional versions of the musical text and Alain's various registration and performance dispositions. The recording was made by Andrzej Brzoska in the church of Of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Tarnów, on the organ of the company Zych, the disposition of which refers to the French symphonic organs.

“Alain was looking for artistic expression not only in music, but also in drawing and poetry. His works often show extra-musical ideas - philosophical or literary. In addition to the influences of a poetic nature, we also observe those from Gregorian singing, early music, impressionism, jazz, non-European rhythmics and tonality. His innovative treatment of the organ shows a reversal from the symphonic perception of this instrument and a turn towards the sonic ideal, which is an innovative synthesis of French classics and romance immersed in sensualism and sensuality.
