The original and the adaptation define this third and final CD in CPO’s series with the piano music of Jacques Offenbach. Six (authentic) piano waltzes form open the disc. The pieces are simple in form but are amazingly varied in terms of melodic invention with surprise effects and rhythmic teases.
The following works are adaptations. Le Voyage dans la lune was arranged by Offenbach himself, whilst the final work, Olympia's coloratura aria from Tales of Hoffmann was arranged by the interpreter on the disc - the virtuoso pianist Marco Sollini. A graceful, rhythmic and lively interpretation!
