Guitarist and singer-songwriter Tony Davis releases new album Cloud Nova. Every album is personal. Few, however, feel like what Tony’s made here: an act of creative and emotional catharsis he calls “life-changing,” a description that rings true in the music.
“This album was a way of honoring myself. It was like reuniting with a dear old friend, honoring, musically, where I originally come from, circling back to my love of songwriting and lyric writing, mixing folk and rock elements into my heavy roots in jazz. I felt this music brewing for a long time. I just wasn’t giving it the time of day — either because I thought it wasn’t good enough, or because it was too different from what I’d been doing. And then I realized I needed to let go. I knew this was honest, and it feels right when I play it. In a way, this album was almost therapeutic for me. Cryptic at times, but diary-like in nature as far as the themes and topics it talks about. There’s this sense of optimism. Even in the sad songs, I like to think there’s a thread of forward moving energy. How to overcome in a healthy, positive way.”
