In Romance, Natalia Pegarkova-Barenboim performs a beautiful collection of romances, each of which tells a love story that speaks directly to the listener.
Every composer included on this album has a definitive significance in Natalia Pegarkova-Barenboim's musical journey and, just as they intertwine with her life, they are all intimately connected with each other. One composer picks up where another left off as though they are passing a secret love letter through time and place, sworn to deliver a tender message of love and devotion. The leitmotif of this relay is Franz Liszt, who connects us to Tchaikovsky, Czerny, Moskowski, Cecile Chaminade, and Clara and Robert Schumann. Even Sibelius does not escape the association: his teacher Busoni was an admirer of Liszt and played for him as a young boy.
Romances for piano are a fascinating form, and one that brilliantly showcases the expressive power of this instrument and the full-scale emotional intensity of Romantic music.
Award-winning pianist Natalia Pegarkova-Barenboim is celebrated for her remarkable solo performances and her passion for chamber music. She is based in Berlin and often collaborates with renowned musicians such as Michael Barenboim and Daniel Hope. Throughout her career, Natalia has performed with numerous chamber ensembles, including the Junge Munchner Philharmonie, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie led by George Benjamin, Kristjan Jarvi and Erik Nielsen, and the Berlin Chamber Orchestra. She has participated in international music festivals in France, Hungary, Belgium, Spain, Greece and Norway. In 2019, Natalia co-founded the Primevere duo with soprano Sofia Livotov, focusing on lesser-known repertoire including music by female composers, artist couples, and forgotten or overlooked composers.
