Italian composer and pianist Alessandro Sgobbio makes return to his primal vocation with ‘Piano Music’, a new collection of solo recordings of intimate piano epistles and dedications. ‘Piano Music 2’, following the acclaimed “Piano Music” released in 2022, presents nine new meditative soundscapes – each of them dedicated to a special person, place or topic.
Performed on a stunning Fazioli F278 Grand Piano & live electronics, the album has been recorded, mixed and mastered by Stefano Amerio at the Artesuono Studios in Italy.
The album is a meditative sound experience that invites the listeners to actively reconnect with the powerful meanings of natural and spiritual elements (“Modular Circles”, “The River”, “Tula”, ”Einhausung”), but also to recall some very special episodes of Sgobbio’s most beloved cities (“Îlot Chalon” is dedicated to the homonym cosmopolitan picturesque Parisian district that unfortunately has faced intentional degradation until its demolition; “Fondamenta de la Tana” is a homage to one of the oldest streets of Venezia), There are also two personal special homages in “Piano Music 2”: the opening track “Keys and Returns” is dedicated to journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, while ”Asker” (which takes its name from the homonym Norwegian town) is dedicated to Sgobbio’s mentor, composer pianist Misha Alperin.
