Kiwi is simple. Seedless. Cut in half, bathing on the vine, in golden southern sunlight. Pulling inspiration from their favorite torn & frayed acoustic improvisation forefathers (Roy Montgomery, Gastr del Sol, Popul Vuh, Pelt, Elkhorn) Lord & Sharp sat in a room facing each other late one spring afternoon, trading 12 strings and 6, alternating closely mic’d acoustics and low-volume electric. These songs exist now as they were performed then. Some overdubs of synth and piano, some field recordings, a couple incredible flute performances from the Anima Sharp, Kristine, to top it all off, but the foundational elements are all from the source water, no previous “writing” or “composition”, just pure “playing”. Two friends with a deep love for the simplicity of a guitar. This is porch music, conversation music. It’s definitely “do you feel that breeze?” music. Fruit in the shade music. Kiwi music.
