4th album from one of the founder members of The Blues Band featuring all original songs not in the standard blues format, strong on melody and craft but still with a bluesy hue.
The Gary Fletcher Band’s ‘Giant From the Blue’ album (a Roald Dahl inspired title!?) was recorded in 2011/12 but has only now been released. It features 12 GF originals played by the GFB’s line-up of ex Dire Straits drummer Pick Withers, ace young guitar player Steve Ling and Jack Fletcher on bass with additional contributions from Nine Below Zero’s Mark Feltham on harmonica, jazz giant Guy Barker on trumpet with backing vocals from Kokomo.
Fletcher:- “By the time the sessions for the album took place the material had been ‘played in’ by the band via numerous gigs in the UK and Scandinavia and I think it shows. Often when recording songs come together for the first time in the studio – certainly that’s invariably the case when I record with The Blues Band – and whilst that can produce great results the feel and assurance of the performances on the album confirms to me the benefit of ‘running in’ the tunes on the road”.
