For this recording we have chosen three works written between 1916 and 1926. The different approaches and ideas of the three composers in this period marked by the First World War and its aftermath are remarkable
Frank Martin's Piano Trio, composed in 1925 during a summer stay in the Atlantic seaside resort of Capbreton, has been with us since our student days. The special melodic and sometimes complex rhythms, which - as the title of the work "Trio sur des mélodies populaires irlandaises" suggests - are based on Irish and Celtic folklore, are challenging, but awaken our joy of playing anew every time!
Two of us, Gergana and Pavlin, have been familiar with Pancho Vladigerov's music since early childhood. His single, massive Piano Trio in A minor captivates us with its original melody and harmony. Although completed in Berlin, we also discover clear traces of Bulgarian folklore in it. We have included this work in our repertoire with joy and enthusiasm and are very pleased to be able to bring it closer to interested listeners with this recording as well
Joaquín Turina's often performed second piano trio was discovered for us rather by chance in 2011. After only one rehearsal, we were fascinated by the colorful and soulful composition, which conveys Spanish harmonies and rhythms in a very authentic way, for example in the dance-like scherzo composed in the typical 5 / 8 time signature. We look forward to every opportunity to play the work anew, to get to know the piece and to share it with the audience!
