Sister Mercy introduces April Brown to the Portland Blues scene. Originally from Los Angeles, April has desired to take her talent to the stages of the Rose City. Nina Simone, Etta James as well as current artists such as Adele and Duffy influence April. She was deeply involved with the music world in Los Angeles, recording and singing with top names at The Whiskey and The Roxie. She trained in comedy at the Groundlings, the training ground for Melissa McCarthey, Kristen Wigg and Will Farrell.
Sister Mercy band members have deep roots in the Oregon regional music area. Roger Espinor played with the award-winning Rose City Kings, as its original drummer and band production manager. He produced three CD’s with this high-energy blues band and brings that creative, driving rhythms to Sister Mercy.
A native New Yorker, Gary Giacci’s musical influences have been molded by the likes of Jaco Pastorius, The Rippingtons, and Stanley Clark. Gary's musical experience spans two coasts and 30 years as both a professional and part-time musician. Steve Savoie brings strong R & B experience on his slide guitar and strong energy to the stage.
Keyboardist Debby Espinor rounds out the band. Debby has played all styles of piano. Highway 99 Blues club was home for The Love Doctors with Charlene Grant and lately she has played across the region with a local jazz band. Ray Charles, Dr. John and Nina Simone as well as Portland local David Vest have influenced her personal style.
