Bridging the gap between jazz combos and "classical" ensembles has a long tradition, ever since bebop pioneer Charlie Parker got in touch with the sound of strings in 1954. The fascination of such connections is unbroken. A dream came true for Daniel Gubelmann with the opportunity to have his own band interact with a large string orchestra. This cooperation is mainly due to the broadcaster SRF 2 Kultur, which made the recording in the Stadthalle Winterthur possible. In terms of composition, Daniel Gubelmann refers, among other things, to the “Third Stream” with which jazz musicians like Gunter Schuller have been developing formal concepts since the 1950s in order to make arbitrary boundaries between jazz and classical music permeable. If "Eternal Movement" comes along like a multi-movement symphonic suite with jazz improvisations, musicians like Stand Getz or Eddie Sauter were also the godfathers, who provided role models for such a practice. At every moment on "Eternal Movement" the string orchestra is on an equal footing with the jazz quartet and share the solo tasks. The title "Eternal Movement" testifies to the claim of the saxophonist and composer from Winterthur to think big. It's about the subjective view of life as a whole, realized in a sensual musical language that tells a lot about the life of the Swiss saxophonist: His time in Buenos Aires, where he studied with Daniel Hector Montes, was very formative for him. The piece "Preludio de Buenos Aires" moves into the incomparable color of the Argentine capital.
