Fredrik Kronkvist - The Swedish Songbook (2022)

After a series of international projects with some of the world's best musicians, saxophonist and composer Fredrik Kronkvist returns home and reconnects with his Swedish musical roots. Fredrik has created forward-looking reworkings of the classics from the rich Swedish musical tradition and given them new exciting arrangements while retaining the core of the strong melodies. The Fredrik Kronkvist Quintet consists of some of the most exciting new voices on the Swedish music scene and with the album The Swedish Songbook, Fredrik and the group continue the legacy of our own musical heroes and bring these legendary songs into our modern times. Here, Kronkvist offers his favorites from folk music, songs, hymns and other songs from the Swedish musical treasure, and the repertoire is a varied and adventurous musical experience where the audience gets both a recognition factor and unexpected surprises.

With him in the band, Fredrik has the new drum phenomenon Adam Ross and the guitarist Olof Wullt, who are some of the strongest voices on their respective instruments that have emerged in Sweden in recent years. On piano is the multi-faceted Sven-Erik Lundeqvist who always gives the listeners an uplifting journey and on bass we have Simon Petersson who with his contemporary bass playing gives us a deep swing for everyone to be moved by.
