Ein neues Klappensystem sorgte um 1800 neben der leichteren Spielbarkeit schneller Passagen auch für einen homogeneren Klang und reinere Intonation der Flöte – damit wurde sie als Soloinstrument für die beginnende Romantik noch interessanter. Carl Maria von Weber trug dem mit seinem 1819 entstandenen Trio für Flöte, Klavier und Cello Rechnung, das die drei Instrumente in gleichberechtigtem Wettstreit zeigt. Ein besonderes Verhältnis zur Flöte hatte Friedrich Kuhlau: obwohl er das Instrument selbst kaum beherrschte, bedachte er es mit zahlreichen Kompositionen. 1831 entstand ein brillantes Trio für gleich zwei Flöten und Klavier, von dem es bald eine Variante mit einer Cellostimme statt der zweiten Flöte gab. Original für diese Besetzung ist dagegen die Fantasia concertante von Carl Czerny, der damit einmal mehr beweist, dass er mehr als Klavierübungen beherrschte. Drei frische frühromantische Werke interpretiert das Trio Laflamme mit mitreißender Verve.
