Horace Andy - Roots & Classics [2CD Set] (2001)

UK 'Best Of' for one of the most recognizable voices in the history of reggae. Horace is one of the leading vocalists to rise from the 1970's Jamaican dub scene with a legendary status built on his work with Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd, Bunny 'Striker' Lee & King Tubby. Features top Kingston musicians Sly & Robbie & the Aggrovators. Andy is also well known for his collaborations with Massive Attack on their key albums 'Blue Lines' , 'Protection' & 'Mezzanine'.

CD #1 is heavy-duty King Tubby & the Aggrovators rhythms, one huge tune after another. It certainly is roots and the tracks certainly are classics! CD #2 is mostly 1990s cuts with a few pretty good 1980s tunes. Fortunately, they sequenced the tracks so the 1970s recordings are all on CD #1 and the rest are on CD #2. Given the awesome content of CD #1 we’re giving this the Ernie B “Essential Pick” status. Excellent mastering, and fine packaging as well.
