01. Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, SV 153 (No. 8 from "Madrigali guerrieri, et amorosi, Pt. 1, Canti guerrieri"- Venice, 1638)
02. Paraphrase on the Dramatic Madrigal "Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda" by Claudio Monteverdi, Op. 28
03. Il carro di fedeltà d'amore
Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, musical drama on a text by Torquato Tasso extracted from 'Jérusalem délivrée' Paraphrase for solo clarinet on the madrigal: 'Il Combatimentto Di Tancredi e Clorinda' by Claudio Monteverdi (1969) Petit opéra on a book by Pietro della Valle, Rome 1611. 3 singers (soprano, tenor, bass), 2 cornetts, 2 sackbuts, theorbo, viola, positive organ and harpsichord This fascinating programme revisits Monteverdi’s masterpiece 'Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda' in a new musical [and in Les Sacqueboutiers' concert programmes, choreographic] version.
This unusual work tells the story of the nocturnal combat between the Christian knight Tancredi and the Muslim Clorinda: a strange and breathtaking confrontation where extreme passions are expressed. Although the initial score was intended to be played by a set of four violas da braccio, cornets and sackbuts used here are perfectly adapted to express the very essence of 'Il Combattimento', due to the fact that these instruments are the most able to imitate the human voice.
