Hello there strangers' How do you do?
There's something I'd like to say to you....
...and, so there is. Those lines kick off the title tune to this album entitled “Are You From Dixie?” I also use them to start many of our concerts which we perform mainly in the New Jersey. New York, and Pennsylvania area. Hardly Dixie right? Well, I'll tell you the tune is a great ice-breaker. Strangers not for long. In no time at all, we notice our Northern audiences relax, smile and clap their hands to our down home and good time Bluegrass music.
Are the Bluegrass Cousins from Dixie? Not a one of them. All New Jersey born and bred but like the legend of the Rebel soldier who wonders if his soul will pass through the Southland - some mystical breeze from old Dixie has touched and made it's imprint felt on each one of us. We hope that deep love of the country and Bluegrass music we each feel will be shared with you.
Are the Bluegrass Cousins really cousins? No Larry Thompson on mandolin and lead guitar and his singing and guitar playing brother, Keith, are the only related members in the band. In the early 1970’s their cousin, Scotty Thompson originally played mandolin with us and was the inspiration for the band's name. The name stuck even after Scotty left the group in the mid 1970's.
Jim Harris on bass and myself on banjo are adopted members of the Thompson clan and a family band atmosphere persists today. The wives and children accompany us to many of our concert/festival dates.
We hope you enjoy our effort here and the next time we meet it won't be as strangers, but as Bluegrass kinfolk. We'll be able to say - Hello there Cousin! How do you do?
