Product Description:
For years, Slow Six bandleader, composer, and software designer Christopher Tignor has performed with his signature software instruments alongside fellow band members, sampling and transforming their live performances in accordance with his meticulous, emotionally charged scores. On Core Memory Unwound, Tignor's debut under his given name, he brings his software to the forefront alongside some of his most intimate compositions for violin and piano. Features virtuoso musicians Colin Jacobsen (Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble) and Margaret Kampmeier, an internationally renowned mainstay in NYC's modern music scene.
Review:
"On Core Memory Unwound Mr. Tignor limits his palette to violin and piano, rendering his manipulations unusually transparent. In `Last Thought at Night' his artificially reverberant violin notes bounce against Margaret Kampmeier's piano lines, like echoes off a distant cliff face ... Two acoustic pieces, played by Ms. Kampmeier and the violinist Colin Jacobsen, mix the simplicity of Arvo Pärt's music with the grainy friction of Morton Feldman's. Each is followed by a fantastical elaboration by Mr. Tignor, with violin and piano sounds only occasionally surfacing within a bubbly electronic mix." -- New York Times
