Anne Mette Stæhr - Erhan Sanri: Im Wartezimmer (Virtuose Vertonungen von Ernst Jandl-Gedichten) (2020)

Ernst Jandl has been set to music by many composers. The focus was almost always on having fun; therefore more was spoken than sung in the setting of the colleagues; the pitch was immaterial.
In my Jandl settings, the music, i.e. the end result, was always in the foreground. So I took the liberty of occasionally "adapting" Jandl's poems to my music, i.e. changed them a little. In the end I tried to conjure up "normal" songs from Jandl's poems. So to pretend that the lyrics are completely "normal". Just as Carl Loewe set the poems of Goethe to music in Romanticism, I wanted to set Ernst Jandl to music.
Of course, it didn't work for me the way it worked for Loewe. But I still managed to use Ernst Jandl's poems to compose "correct", almost "normal" songs that are a bit weird, but still sound beautiful. Erhan Sanri
