First double bass soloist since 1991 by the Orchestra and Filarmonica della Scala, winner of the 1991 ARD Competition in Munich, he was also awarded at the "Bottesini" Competition in Parma in 1989.
The CD Sextet (Decam-Tdd / Edel label) has recently been released, which includes sixteen of his compositions which show his interest in modern musical forms, from jazz to new age. In this context he also played in a quintet with Bobby Mc Ferrin, and in a trio with Stefano Bollani in a concert with the Filarmonica della Scala and Riccardo Chailly recorded on DVD for Decca.
He teaches in Milan at the Accademia della Scala and the Music School; he also holds masterclasses in Italy and in the world, recently also in Mexico, where in June 2017 he was invited for the first performance of the Concerto for double bass and orchestra L'Inferno by José Alejandro Hernàndez Cadengo, and in Taiwan, where he performed a recital at Taipei National Hall.
Since 2016 he has been a teacher at the specialization courses of the Chigiana Academy of Siena, and since September 2017 he has been appointed "Visiting International Teacher" at the Birmingham Conservatory.
