In 2016 the Swiss soprano Regula Mühlemann released her debut album on Sony Classical. She had chosen opera and concert arias by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for it. And the response was overwhelming. One spoke of "Mozart's luck". BR-Klassik celebrated her creative urgency and her bell-like voice, which sounds wonderfully warm even at the highest heights: "This combination makes Regula Mühlemann an outstanding Mozart interpreter," they concluded. "Mozart Arias" also won the German Record Critics' Prize (List of the Best) Since then, Regula Mühlemann has conquered opera houses and concert halls all over the world, not only as a Mozart singer. She has released two further highly praised albums on Sony Classical ("Cleopatra" and "Lieder der Heimat"), appeared twice at the ZDF Advent Concert and as a prizewinner at the ZDF Opus Klassik Gala 2018. With her new album she returns to Mozart with the Basel Chamber Orchestra under the baton of conductor Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli - true to the motto: Never change a winning team! For her second Mozart album, the singer has selected a total of nine favourite pieces. You can hear virtuoso and touching arias from the operas "The Magic Flute", "Il re pastore", "Lucio Silla", "Zaide", "La finta semplice" and "Idomeneo". In addition, there are the concert arias "Ah se in ciel, benigne stelle" KV 538 and "Un moto di gioia" KV 579. Regula Mühlemann admires Mozart's deep knowledge of human nature. Moreover, his music is a special challenge for every singer, as the soprano emphasizes: "Many people think Mozart's music is simple. The more experience I have as a singer, the more convinced I am that his compositions are sometimes the most difficult thing to sing. Behind the supposed simplicity, honesty and authenticity there is absolutely no room for uncertainty - neither of a technical nor interpretative nature. If you don't mean and feel Mozart 100%, everyone notices that immediately." On her latest album Mühlemann can also be heard in the role of "Susanna" from "Figaro's Wedding". And as she once revealed in an interview, it was not only her first Mozart opera ever that she listened to when she was a teenager in Zurich. Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" triggered in her the desire to become a singer. "I was so touched and happy back then and just thought: I want / have to sing something so beautiful too." Since the Mozart production of "The Magic Flute" with Regula Mühlemann cannot take place at the Salzburg Festival 2020, the singer is even more looking forward to her upcoming Mozart engagement at the Vienna State Opera. "I am so much looking forward to being able to sing some of the roles on the album soon. For example, the Vienna State Opera has engaged me as a member of the revived Mozart Ensemble. And to sing Pamina from the Magic Flute at the Salzburg Festival would have been something I would not have dared to dream of in the past. And now it's on the calendar for 2021, after the production was postponed from this year to next."
