Which secret laws decide whether the fame of an artist will survive the times or fade will probably always remain a mystery. Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel, one of the most important and best-known musicians of his time, found his position as court kapellmeister in Gotha in 1719 following stays in Italy and intermezzi at various European princely courts. Here he led court music life to a new heyday, lasting three decades until his death in 1749. The fact that today Stölzel is no longer mentioned in the same breath as Bach or Handel is mainly due to the poor source situation. Many of his compositions have been lost, the rest, scattered in various libraries, has only survived in transcripts
The chamber music ensemble NeoBarock, which in the few years of its existence quickly gained a reputation as an excellent interpreter of extraordinary programmes and in its highly acclaimed CD recordings of Bach and his environment "proved to be a stylistically knowledgeable administrator of this repertoire" (Fono Forum), has now once again embarked on a tour of discovery and has once again excavated and recorded the most beautiful chamber music compositions of the Gotha genius.
