Steve Hadfield - Unreality (2020)

Forged amidst the complex emotions of awaiting first-time parenthood, 'Unreality' became an outlet for the more chaotic feelings in Steve's head. The result is vintage playful IDM, tracks which are just about held together by pulsing bass lines as the other components perform their complicated dances. 'At times I channelled the emotions of hope, excitement, anxiety very clearly into my music - those tracks have become Displacement Activity volumes 1 and 2 - and at other times composing acted as more of an escapist pursuit. Pure chaos, add more drums, more arpeggios, see where it goes! Our baby is now 8 months old - how time flies! I've been sampling her heavily across those 8 months, so brace yourselves for part 3 of this parenthood triptych in due course...'
