With "Lighter Side Of The Blues" I really wanted to capture the joy that the blues instills in the hearts of those who love it. Because I enjoy all types of blues, I chose to embrace multiple styles from traditional shuffles and ballads, to New Orleans, country rock, and R&B inspired blues. The stories told in my songs are generally more light-hearted in nature and sometimes lyrically humorous. Some of the songs contain my own little recipes for happiness. "Mister Bassman" is my love letter to my husband and a tribute to the unsung heroes of the blues-the bass players. While listening to my blues, I hope it will help us to remember to not take things so seriously, laugh and love a little more, remember who we are, why we are here, and how lucky we are to be a part of this wonderful crazy world together...Val Starr
