Jazz is not a genre to have a selection routinely make an appearance on the Pop charts, especially starting in 1955 by which time it had evolved into something entirely different than the music permeating heard from 1917 to 1954 which then fell under the “jazz” label but which was really, in many cases, early Blues fused with elements of the big band sound. But pure Jazz is here as well and this ambitious 100-volume series from Membran of Germany chronicles those that registered somewhere on the Pop charts from 1917 to 1954. Considering the age of the music, the sound reproduction quality, although varying from track to track, is quite good to the ears of anyone familiar with the sound of old 78-rpm discs, and liner notes accompany each volume, originally written in German by Gerhard Kluámeier but translated into English by Steven Clark. The sides presented in this 3rd volume are repeated in the Comments below where I also show the artists involved along with chart and label details.
