AllMusic Review by Andy Kellman
The four-track, half-hour L-Event trailed the 17-track, two-hour Exai by almost eight months. Much of it is among Autechre's most direct, least complex output, yet it's no less fascinating than any of their intricate material. "Newbound" and the chunkier "M39 Diffain" creep and slash with a startling degree of sharpness. Both of them would have been among Exai's high points. "Tac Lacora," the opener, is all mangled shards, confrontational to the point of provoking agitation, while "Osla for N" works stark percussion that resembles a fusion of struck woodblocks and dog barks. One can't be faulted for having checked out on Autechre years ago -- the discography is immense -- but Brown and Booth have continued to produce abstract electronic music that is inspired and frequently sensational.
