Confident in human nature, more prone to breaking down barriers that closed world of competition, Olivia Gay dares to think outside the box and propose alternative projects, unusual and inventive. Never give in on the artistic standards, cellist put on a form of audacity, for the sole purpose to expand the listening possibilities to drive as the concert.
His first recording, Horizon [s] (2018 Ilona Records) suggests an eminently lyrical cello in the heart of three contemporary concertos, contrasting and radically different, both in terms of generation and especially style (Peteris Vasks, Philippe Hersant, Thierry Maillard); Disk won several awards and received public praise and criticism (ffff Télérama "passionately We love"; "A sound wonderful cello" for Liberation; "An ambitious and original." for France Musique; 4 Diapasons "the seat and natural fullness of the game, the sharpness of a bow which flourish on its [...]"; "If the bet is successful, is that everything is done in a very controlled, [ ...] "according But Not Classic Has Been;" An outstanding soloist "for Crescendo Magazine,
With the complicity of accordionist Basha Slavinska and pianist Celia Oneto Bensaid, the second disc Origin [s] Olivia Gay weaves new connections between art music and popular sources around the monumental Sonata for solo cello Kodály in the heart of the project. While vowing a real passion for the romantic repertoire, Olivia assumes eclecticism and byways, as they intersect sincerity appetite for news and mixing genres. It thus turns to genuine musical adventures, as varied and inspiring a horse show, a concert plus a set design and video projection, or the creation of a festival.
Olivia Gay found in Franche-Comté her roots, she discovered, child, magic cello. At fourteen, she has most of the great concertos in the fingers. At the Strasbourg Conservatory, she continued her studies with Marc Coppey which technically perfected and he learns the concert business. She also discovers with great enthusiasm contemporary music. After the baccalaureate, Olivia follows Marc Coppey in Paris and also receives advice of Paul Meyer and Eric Le Sage in chamber music. She then joined Jean-Guihen Queyras at the Stuttgart Musikhochschule, where she obtained a Master before completing their learning in the Johannes Moser soloist class in Cologne.
Although with multiple selections and international contests (Masterplayers International Music Competition, competitions Flame, Alexander Glazunov, Padua, Gerardmer and Léopold Bellan), winner of the Cziffra Foundation and the Ravel Academy, Olivia Gay stands out in a way decidedly more personal, guided by instinct where she learned to trust.
