French flutist and conductor Alexis Kossenko attended the Paris Conservatory, where he was a flute student of Alain Marion, and later studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Marten Root. In 1995 he won first prize in the Lions Club International Flute Competition, and in 2001, he won a special prize for best interpretation at the Jean-Pierre Rampal Flute Competition. He has performed with La Chambre Philharmonique, Le Concert d'Astrée, Stradivaria, Ensemble Matheus, the Barokksolistene, the Paris Orchestral Ensemble, Orchestre d'Auvergne, Anima Eterna, Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, the Kölner Akademie, La Grande Écurie and la Chambre du Roy, the Mozart Akademie Amsterdam, Concerto Copenhagen, Capriccio Stravagante, Les Paladins, Le Concert Spirituel, and the European Union Baroque Orchestra. He also plays chamber music, and has performed in recitals with Catherine Bott, Andrew Manze, Richard Egarr, Leif Ove Andsnes, and Ole Edvard Antonsen. Kossenko has also conducted several ensembles, including B'Rock, the Holland Baroque Society, and Arte dei Suonatori. Kossenko is adept at playing early and modern flutes, as well as recorder, and he founded Les Ambassadeurs, a period instruments group. He has recorded for Alpha, Glossa, Channel Classics, and Eloquentia.
