Alfio Origlio - Absyrations (2019)

Alfio meets Rémi during a jam session at the jazz-club Grenoble The cabbage soup. They are about twenty years old. The musical relationship is coupled with a deep friendship, so that Alfio's first record as a leader is recorded, of course, with Rémi Vignolo on double bass in 1992. As for André Ceccarelli, it is Rémi Vignolo who presents it to Alfio during a concert in Paris. Subsequently, they meet regularly in various formations and album projects as in the Paris Jazz Big Band with Pierre Bertrand or accompanying accordionist Daniel Mille.

While in 1999, Alfio Origlio was offering for the first time an album with this trio, Ricordo (listen here on Deezer), almost twenty years later, encouraged by the sound engineer and friend Frédérique Bétin (studio 26 in Antibes) , the album Absyrations is born, as a tribute to passing time and fraternity.

Alfio Origlio chooses a trio formula to leave the field free to improvise the piano with one of the most exceptional jazz rhythms. The singular precision and rhythmic language of the world-wide reference of the drums, André Ceccarelli, allied to the strength and elegance of Rémi Vignolo's double bass.

As for the choice of songs, Alfio Origlio gives pride of place to the power of the melodies with two songs of Ennio Morricone, of a breathtaking beauty: The clan of the Sicilians and Once upon a time the revolution alternated with five compositions, sometimes aerial and subtle with Absyrations and Cirrus, sometimes melancholy with Viking boat or facetious with Tractor paradise and Tantine the wheel. The dazzling interpretation of E Lucevan the stele of the very romantic Giaccomo Puccini will enchant the listener. "After a last album with very electric sounds, and a training for six musicians (CD Walk in Wake), I wanted a recording with a more traditional trio that allows to have space to improvise. A rhythm with Dédé and Rémi, it's a red carpet for piano improvisation on "beautiful chords". All three speak the same language and it's very inspiring, "explains Alfio.

This album, he called it Absyrations, a strange word, invented, just as he composes a piece. A neologism that could sum up his life as a musician when the absence, that of his during the tours and the creative inspiration mix.
