The Last Saturday Night is a collection of ten new and original Pinto Bennett songs recorded in Idaho with long time friends and special guests. Bennett's unique and powerful songwriting shine on this tasteful production of soon to be classics.
The album swings with the Hank Thompson inspired sounds of "It's Cryin' Time So Wine Me Up" and the Bob Wills inspired "The Band Plays Songs I Wish I Could Forget". The intensity kicks up with the gospel-rock punch of "Lady Wisdom". "I Like Singin' the Blues in a Honky Tonk Song" featuring Americana star Eilen Jewell is a soon to be classic Pinto song (and Bennett's favorite of the collection).
Pinto offers his familiar humor through the perspective of an elder statesman of Idaho country music. In the up-tempo "Old Timer", he describes an old man with, "burnt out brains, sick sack-a-guts. Sittin' in a wheelchair, checkin' out butts." The slow country shuffle "Costume Jewelry finds another old timer in the back of the room wishing one more time he, "could lay on the charm," with a beautiful woman who just graced the bar. Pinto's honest delivery on the tender album closer, "Old Dog" explains how that ol' dog inside him, "keeps howlin' out for more."
