Opera singer Simon O'Neill admits his career takes him away from his wife and children for over nine months each year.
"I am privileged to have the opportunity to sing in the great opera houses and concert halls of the world," he says. "Though... my thoughts are never far from my beautiful wife and children and our wonderful family home in New Zealand..."
O'Neill has used this distance as inspiration for his latest album. It's called Distant Beloved and is a selection of German Lieder by Beethoven, Schumann, Richard Strauss and Wagner. Recorded here in New Zealand with pianist Terence Dennis, the album is dedicated to O'Neill's family.
