Georg Solti was a Hungarian conductor known for his work with the Chicago, London, and Paris Symphony Orchestras. During his more than 50 years in the classical music industry, he recorded more than 40 operas and made more than 250 recordings with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Solti was influenced and taught by some of the most well-known composers and conductors in the industry, including Béla Bartok, Leo Weiner, Zoltan Kodaly, and Ernst von Dohnanyi. Richard Strauss was one of his favorite composers; on the composer's 85th birthday, Solti performed Der Rosenkavalier.

Born in Budapest, Solti studied composition and piano at the Budapest Conservatory. He made his professional debut in 1930 with the Budapest Opera. He conducted the ensemble until 1939 when he moved to Switzerland. Solti was also impressed by the works of Arturo Toscanini. He was even more astounded when Toscanini chose him to be his assistant at the Salzburg Festival in 1937. This was one of Solti's major achievements during his years as a conductor and pianist. In 1942 he reached another milestone in his career when he won first prize for piano at the Concours International at Geneva, Switzerland. For ten years, he held the position of Artistic and Music Director of the Frankfurt Opera. From 1961 to 1971 he was the Music Director of the Royal Opera House in London. Following his successful appointment in London, he was knighted and became Sir Georg Solti in 1972.

Traveling the world, Solti did not neglect the United States. He made his U.S. debut with the San Francisco Symphony in 1953. He was first associated with the Chicago Symphony in 1954 at the annual Ravinia Festival. In 1969, he was appointed music director for the Chicago Symphony, a position he held for more than 20 years.

During his career, Solti recorded all of Wagner's works including Ring. He conducted more than 40 operas around the world, among them Arabella, Moses und Aron, and Die Frau ohne Schatten. He began recording in 1947 under the Decca label, but collections and other recordings can also be found under the Unitel label.

The '90s were a slow time for him, as traveling worldwide, performing concerts, and recitals became tiresome. He was the artistic director of the Salzburg Easter Festival from 1990-1992. In 1992, he performed Othello at Covent Garden in London. Solti made quite a name for himself as a conductor and pianist. With more than six decades of performances and recordings to his credit, Georg Solti will always be one of the greatest conductors of his time. He died September 5, 1997 in Antibes, France. -- Kim Summers

Seems new master (like in theater) but I prefer old one (more vivid) as far as I listened a little.
Thanks

Do you know what the difference is between this and the digital release? (One difference I notice is the digital release was not 88.2.) But is this a different master than the digital release by Decca?

From Album Preview, Decca's digital discs and digital files since 1997 are all digital-remastered by James Lock, Decca Sound Engineer with noise-cutting and equalizing,
but these SACDs are by tapes provided from Decca to Japan in 1970s and not used because they were to compensate errors of master metals for vinyl with.
They say no noise-cutting and no equalizing.
And original tapes are said so damaged that these Japan tapes are nearest to original and best to use.
This 24-88.2 is SACD (released in 2018) ripping.
If my translation is wrong, sorry.
Thanks

From the Album Preview:
The production master used for this SACD is the safety analog master tape that had been kept for the emergency use and unfortunately got forgotten for a long time.
It had been made by the Decca Record Company in the beginning of the 1970s as a safety master tape, copying directly from the 1/4-inch original analog master tape on a one-to-one basis, and been provided to the King Records in Japan which was the importer and distributor of the Decca records at that time. It would have been used only if any flaws in the metal master prepared for the LP recordings had been found.
But, for its limited usage (only used for the emergency) it had not been on a written record, and consequently, its whereabouts had become unknown. However, thanks to persistent searching by the Universal Music Japan, it was finally discovered and we got the privilege to be given a license by Decca to make a fresh transfer from this safety analog master tape.

The master source currently used by Decca for Solti's Ring transfer is the digital master tape, commonly known as "James Lock Remaster", which was made by Decca mastering engineer James Lock who had assisted John Culshaw on the original Ring sessions.
Assigned by Decca to de-hiss the Ring for the 1997 edition CD, Lock made new 48/24 transfers (PCM/48kHz/24bit) from the original analog tapes, applying processing treatments such as equalizing and noise reduction.
Since the original analog master tapes were too deteriorated to make a new transfer (that was said by Decca), all digital discs and digital files that have been issued since 1997, without any exception, were made by using this "James Lock Remaster" as a source.
Therefore, our SACD is the first and only transfer in the world, digitized from the precious master source that had been stored before remastering was applied.

@Bjarki
Thank you for exact translation :)
