The songs on Morning Light grew out of the global response to the album Bilateral Music, which was created specifically for use with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. Since 2013, when the original Bilateral Music album was released, thousands of therapists and clients around the world have listened to it.
In 2018, a second volume, Bilateral Music II, was released, containing ten new songs, all mixed with bilateral panning, which moves the sound slowly back and forth from left to right, the same bilateral stimulation that has been shown (with EMDR) to open up neurological pathways, which helps heal people whose traumatic memories contain painful emotions.
The album Morning Light is a companion to Bilateral Music II. It contains the same ten songs, with the same instruments and sound effects, except instead of panning between left and right, the music is heard in conventional stereo.
The sounds include acoustic guitars, gentle melodies on flute or recorder, soft keyboard pads, light bells and percussion, background voices, and other instruments like cello and mandolin, mixed with nature sounds of wind and water.
The songs are played at relatively slow tempos, close to the natural rhythm of the human heart at rest.
