Lautten Compagney - Händel, Vinci: Didone abbandonata (2018) [Hi-Res]

At the Händelfestspiele Halle 2016, the Lautten Compagney, one of the most renowned Baroque ensembles, presented with great success Leonardo Vinci's Didone abbandonata in the arrangement of Georg Friedrich Händel (HWV A12). "The rediscovery of Vinci is a stroke of luck - a Baroque jewel, a musical firework of the finest" (Die deutsche Bühne). The opera was not for nothing the greatest success of the composer Leonardo Vinci. The libretto by Pietro Metastasio from 1724 is based on Virgil's "Aeneis", was one of the most popular opera texts of the Baroque and was set to music by many composers, including Leonardo Vinci in 1726. The world premiere took place in Rome in Carnival time. In 1737 Händel performed a Pasticcio of this opera at London's Royal Theater. His compilation contains, in addition to thirteen arias by Vinci, nine popular arias of other composers, including Giacomelli, Vivaldi and Hasse. The soloists of this recording with the Lautten Compagney under the direction of Wolfgang Katschner are Robin Johannsen, Olivia Vermeulen, Antonio Giovannini, Julia Böhme, Namwon Huh and Polina Artsis. This recording, the first recording of Händel's complete version, features an outstanding Baroque opera of the new, gallant style, full of life, brilliant arias and dramatic scenes.
