The Gravel-Aires - National Avenue (2018)

Mark Branscombe and Mike Mahoney from Vancouver got together in 2016 to play a few tunes Mark had written and see if they could create some kind of a duet to play local coffee houses bars and college radio shows. As it went they enjoyed playing together a lot and songs got developed and a few more got written as the duet rehearsed for their performances over the year.

On a rainy Vancouver weekend in late 2017 The Gravel-Aires locked themselves into Red Light Recording in East Vancouver with Jesse Waldman engineering and co-producing the 14 tunes that are the National Avenue album. The tunes are free-range alt-country, rock, blues, folk and R&B.The songs are all sung and played live by Mark and Mike with a few overdubs added to sweeten things up for the listener.
Our goal was to provide as pure a performance as we could, play without a conventional drums/bass/keyboards rhythm section and keep it interesting for the listener. Real music, played into the air on real guitars by real humans.
We hope you'll enjoy a few of our tunes and the collection is a good soundtrack for your road trips.
