The Bamboos - Sugar on Top (2026)

'Sugar on Top' is the twelth studio album from pioneering Melbourne Soul / Funk 10 piece, lead by guitarist / song writer / band leader Lance Ferguson with lead vocals from the Australian Queen Of Soul, Kylie Auldist. The band are recognised as the foundation artist in the world renowned Melbourne Soul Scene that has produced Hiatus Kaiyote, Surprise Chef and Glass Beams.
Soundwise this new album recalls the timeless sound of their much loved 2020 'Hard Up' album, incorporating a modern songwriting approach with classic soul arrangements, appealing to both purist fans of the genre as much as casual music fans.
Now into their 26th year, The Bamboos have maintained their worldwide reputation as trailblazers of Funk & Soul. Eleven studio albums their evolution continues driven by the unmistakably the trademark combination of Lance Ferguson’s Soul powered production style, their effortless groove powered by a band made up of Melbourne's best players and Kylie Auldist’s incredible voice.
The album arrives in the middle of a wave of viral success for their 2006 track “I Don’t Wanna Stop”, which exploded on social media in late 2025 and shows no sign of slowing down. It recently passed one billion plays on TikTok and has similarly huge numbers across Instagram and Youtube. Long a live favourite, there’s been no pattern or trend to the song’s success in how it’s been used, with users simply drawn to an undeniably feel-good sweet Soul tune.
