The "World Jazz Sound" LP by Gilles Torrent is released on Jazzman and comes as a double LP. The release brings together the saxophonist and arranger’s ensemble project of the same name, condensing studio recordings—where jazz-style horn arrangements meet vocal and world-music elements—into a compact vinyl edition.
The program includes pieces such as "La longue traversée du désert," a take on "Afro Blue," and an original version of "Scarborough Fair." On the recordings, Gilles Torrent appears as a soprano saxophonist and clarinetist as well as the arranger; Jamila Dorner contributes vocals, Julie Campiche adds harp, Erida Bega plays violin, Andrea von Flüe handles Middle Eastern percussion instruments, Mathieu Rossignelly plays piano, François Gallix double bass, and Tobie Langel drums. This lineup lends the arrangements subtle tonal colors and rhythmic complexity.
The "World Jazz Sound" LP on Jazzman emphasizes richly textured ensemble playing and nuanced dynamics; the dense instrumentation remains transparent and leaves room for solo passages. On this release, Gilles Torrent combines improvisational freedom with carefully crafted arrangements, making the double LP appealing both to collectors of modern jazz fusion and to listeners interested in world-music influences in contemporary jazz.
