The Highlands band Elephant Sessions releases its fifth studio album, “This Place Of Ours,” on its own label of the same name. Previously known mainly for instrumental music, the group takes a clear step toward song-based writing on this record, featuring guest vocalists Beluga Lagoon, Alice Faye, and Hamish Hutcheson. Their voices are not tacked-on additions but are woven into the arrangements, and together with the band’s recognizable bass-and-drum foundation they shape well-defined song structures. The album was written and recorded in Scotland. Its sound is built on expansive synth pads, orchestral string passages, and short, catchy melodies, with rhythmic drive remaining the main engine. The advance singles “Fade” and “Run” show how the band fuses dense electronics with its folk roots: vocals work as a textural element, melody stays at the center, and layered sound creates a sense of space. The vinyl comes in a slip sleeve and lets both the rhythmic power and the new vocal nuances come through fully. The result presents Elephant Sessions as a band that keeps its ties to its roots while confidently moving toward a contemporary electronic mode of expression.
