The shallow margins, The Humble Bee & Fields We Found - tule (2026)

Recording their busted instruments to old samplers and looping field recordings on old reel-to-reel machines, fields we found and the humble bee trap themselves in a parallel past on 'tule', creating pastoral ambience from forgotten sonic oddments.

Craig Tattersall and Alex Gold have been mates for years, with Tattersall opening Gold's quiet details series and subtly informing many of the releases. So when Gold recovered from a lymphoma two years ago, he vowed to chase up the collaborations he'd put on the mental back burner and working with Tattersall became an immediate priority. The two share a similar philosophy when it comes to music, so it's not hard to work out where 'tule' is heading. Plugging in their arsenal of rusty gear, they subject found sounds and home recorded loops - delicate piano melodies, wheezing harmonium drones and powdery environments - to their anachronistic processes.

You can almost see the tape flaking off as it passes the heads, fluttering Gold and Tattersall's recordings as it disintegrates. And the old samplers also lend the material a distinct characteristic too, warming the sounds with their circuits. It's ambient music, no doubt, but it sounds as if it's been assembled completely outside of the digital realm, in a creaky wooden back room somewhere with a log fire crackling nearby. Quite lovely.
