matter 100 - true or false (2026) Hi-Res

The six-piece matter 100 band was formed by Kaja Draksler at the request of Bimhuis, one of the centers of the European jazz scene in Amsterdam. The Slovenian pianist's initial idea was an alternative pop group that thinks in pure song forms, but the final line-up moved towards a band that combines heterogeneous, often seemingly disparate musical ideas and trends, in whose work, in addition to the pronounced presence of improvisation, the influence of experimental contemporary music, folk and punk is also evident. It is probably no coincidence that their name comes from a Slovenian saying, which in Hungarian is best translated as "ez běn gmbócból is sok". Matter 100 colors and expands simple harmonies with the help of microtonality, while shaping the sound with amplification and electronic effects. The character of the music is inseparably determined by the sometimes sung, sometimes recited poems of the recently deceased American surrealist poet Dean Young: their simultaneously concrete and abstract world provides the perfect basis for both the lyrics of the vocal part and the free adventures of the compositions.
