Infiniti, Juan Atkins - Infiniti Collection (Remastered & Expanded) (1996/2026)

30 year glow-up of a landmark Juan Atkins techno compilation, including 1991-’96 jams with Moritz Von Oswald and Orlando Voorn, and newly expanded with material from same era.

Aside to the proceeding ’Skynet’ (1998) album, the ‘Infiniti Collection’ is the best place to get a grip on Juan Atkins’ influential shift from electro to techno during the pivotal early-mid ‘90s. With his ‘80s electro templates as Cybotron and Model 500 in the rearview, Atkins was instrumental in steering Detroit house and techno to its ultimate forms as Infiniti. His 1996 compilation parsed 10 gems from some half decade of work, ranging from the project’s early, trippy ace ‘Impulse’ (1991) to the slower sublime of ‘Moon Beam’ and crystalline synths of ‘Raindrops’ from 1996.

Perhaps most notable are the blissed and buoyant flow of ‘Flash Flood’ and Moritz Von Oswald’s ’94 remodel of ‘Think Quick’, a 9 min masterpiece of massaged subs and arp saccades produced at a peak of his M-Series and Basic Channel phase, and also Atkins’ energy boosting ‘Game One’ jam with Dutch ally Orlando Voorn. Stir in the Mad Mike/UR-adjacent beauty ‘Martians at Work’ and a sexy techno soul expansions ‘Never Tempt Me’ and ‘Higher (edit)’ for a definitive overview of the early ‘90s Detroit x Berlin axis.
