Willy Nfor was a Cameroonian musician who moved to Nigeria in 1976 to pursue a career in music and eventually became a prominent figure on the Afro-funk scene. After performing with groups such as the Pentagon Funk Band, he fronted The Mighty Flames and released several recordings, including a highly acclaimed 1979 album that defined his signature “space funk” sound. Its raw, energetic instrumental style was compared to the work of international artists such as Chic and Bootsy Collins. After finding success in Nigeria, Willy Nfor became a sought-after session bassist in Lagos and later collaborated with Mory Kanté in Paris. He died on February 28, 1998, leaving behind a legacy preserved in compilations such as the 2018 release Movements: Boogie Down In Africa.
