Mirabai Ceiba is a duo made up of singer and guitarist Markus Sieber and singer and harpist Angelika Baumbach. Their album Sacred Love Meditations is music for lovers, built on the interplay of masculine and feminine energies: two gentle voices intertwine while Angelika’s harp is wrapped in the warmth of Markus’s guitar. The record is structured around six love meditations that guide listeners to a place in the heart where they can both give and receive love. They are designed primarily for couples and come with instructions, but also include variations for individuals who want to open themselves to love on their own. A line-up of world-renowned musicians supports the duo, and the album was once again produced by Jamshied Sharifi.
The musicians say the meditations come from the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. In their words, the meditations can create an open-hearted, spiritual space between two people or within one person, and serve as a tool for deeper communication that brings light and healing into relationships. Everyday life, with its work, household chores and children, leaves little time for real closeness with a partner. Without deep communication, feelings and emotions accumulate in the body and mind, settle in the unconscious, and turn into suppressed frustration and anger toward a partner or toward oneself. The way out, they say, is to access the sacred space within each of us and meet one another soul to soul, beyond assumptions, expectations and worries. They thank everyone who took part in the creative process, especially Jamshied Sharifi for his production and guidance, and Karan Khalsa for her constant support and inspiration.
