Jimmie Rodgers is one of the founding figures of American popular music, widely known as the “Father of Country Music.” He earned the nickname “The Singing Brakeman” from his early years working on the railroads. His sound fused traditional folk, blues, jazz and a distinctive vocal style, and his signature “blue yodel” became a cultural phenomenon that reshaped country and roots music. His recording career was brief: illness cut it short in 1933. Even so, he became the first person inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
A 14-track vinyl compilation gathers recordings from his peak period, 1927–1933. It includes the breakthrough “Blue Yodel No.1 (T For Texas)” (1927), the narrative “In The Jailhouse Now,” the haunting “Waiting for a Train,” the blues-inflected “Blue Yodel No. 8 (Mule Skinner Blues),” and one of his final works, “Mississippi Delta Blues.” The release offers a cohesive picture of his fingerstyle guitar playing and unmistakable vocal delivery. It is aimed at vinyl collectors, fans of traditional country, and those who care about preserving musical heritage.
