It wasn’t long after the release of his 2025 album Steep Stims that another LP’s worth of material emerged. Enticing EPs dropped throughout 2026 as he fell ever further into the rabbit hole, amassing an insatiable body of anything-goes dancefloor leftfieldisms, road-tested and refined on tour. Here Clark gathers his EP's Modal, Opponent, and Entity Stims into a rich collection as we reach Steep Stims II.
Steep Stims II began life in different places, pulling together retooled hooks, live jams, and lurking archive finds into entirely new productions. It’s no coincidence that an encounter with the Access Virus synthesiser became the impetus for this whole period; the wrangling of an old, recalcitrant slab of hardware has produced an infectiousness powering this whirlwind of experiments, while whipping up old tracks in the process. That energy leaks gleefully out into the world, into collaborations with Bicep on their track ‘Viper’ where the album’s compelling details and ferocious electricity reappear. Mixing moods, the album traces these contrasts in an emotional ebb and flow, a hazy afterglow that culminates in Cult Leavers - discreetly shuffling out of the dancefloor wonderland back into the shadows
Clark on Steep Stims II & Naiveventide:
"The older I get the more I enjoy making music. It’s subtle- but I find it very hard to put this into POST WORDS. Anyway….Steep Stims II is a collection of this years Stims EPs plus there’s a new track-Naiveventide.
I quite often listen to stuff on phone speakers just to check the notes/phrasing, you know like the actual “substance” horizontals rather than any production “style” vertical gubbins.
I listened to Naiveventide about 20 times on my phone speaker around the house saying “yes” “yep” “yes” “correct” every 4.5 seconds. It put me in a good mood, optimistic which is an odd emotion to feel these days. This isn’t always the case, I often listen to work in progress on phone speakers saying “no, nope, incorrect, mistake, twat”.
But Naiveventide came out in one fell swoop.
See what I mean? See how banal talking ‘artist talking about music” can be?
It’s either this or I become pretentious and conceptual. I think I prefer the former.
“musician listens to piece of music he wrote on a phone speaker and says yes”
FFS
Anyway, I’m really pleased this record is out and I can finally say goodbye to this period of my life. It’s a “bye” with alot of love in it but still…"
