Harbottle and Jonas (Dave and Freya) have laid roots down on Dartmoor. They feel at home and at peace amongst the forests, trickling rivers and ancient tors. For the past few years, they have been collecting local and traditional folk songs of Devon and now feel the time is right to bring these sketches and scraps together in the form of a new album, due for release in 2026. Having been profoundly inspired by Dartmoor woodland copses, beacons and local sensibilities, Dave and Freya wanted to bring their own interpretations to these old songs and add a few of their own in the process. Heritage is sacred and breathing new life into the stories of this
landscape is what has been inspiring this South Brent based folk duo. The ‘Murder Door’ at St. Petroc’s Church features and was one of the first flashes of inspiration for the album. A few years ago, Dave and Freya were presented with a box of old sheet music collected by Sam Richards and gifted by Andy Clarke as part of a tradition to pass down old folk melodies and songs. It is their honour to distribute this music onto someone else next... Jim Causley has also been a great reference point in the process of researching songs for the record. The resulting album is a collection of songs both new and old, inspired by the moor and is performed and recorded with their network of musicians and friends including Freyas ‘Wild Goose Folk Community Choir’. Richard Trethewey (Fiddler and Cornish Bard - oh dear). They have once again teamed up with longtime collaborator Louise Scammell (Artwork).
