Jess Holt, who performs as total tommy, was born in Melbourne and is based in Sydney. Following the notable success of her 2024 album bruises, she is releasing a new record, Trapezoid. It is a loud, guitar-driven indie rock album with traces of grunge, emo and post-punk, while its melodies stay hook-filled, in the vein of alternative rock. Conceptually, the record grew out of ’90s cinema, nostalgia and queer storytelling, so the songs sound cinematic while retaining emotional depth.
The material was written in Sydney and London with producer Tom Stafford, known for his work with Orla Gartland. As a result, Holt’s sound is heavier and more expansive than on bruises. The album cements her place among Australia’s most exciting new artists and should especially appeal to fans of Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy and Momma.
