A group of friends who have known each other for 12 years — Charlie, Mohsen and Bene — started Stems From This six years ago, during lockdown, simply to pass the time. It began with a track Charlie sent to Mohsen, intending to make a quick video for social media. The idea quickly grew, and Bene was brought in to add string parts.
It soon became clear that the material was worth more than a video, so they decided to make a full album. They kept sending stems back and forth from their bedrooms, never expecting the music to reach an audience. Shortly afterwards Bene joined Talisk, and it seemed the album would stay a thing for house parties.
That changed once lockdown ended: Charlie became the guitarist of Talisk, and the friends realized the album could be released for real, as a new sound for Talisk. In the studio they combined six years’ worth of stems and made entirely original music, moving beyond the three instruments they were used to. Inspired by a wide range of genres, the album is something they are all now genuinely proud of.
