Ngozi Family - Bad Character (2026) [Hi-Res]

Ngozi Family - Bad Character (2026) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: Ngozi Family

In the 1970s, the Zamrock movement erupted in Zambia. Young musicians gained access to European and American music and used it to build a sound of their own: fuzz-toned psychedelia, chugging garage rock and roiling funk, filtered through African cadences and beats. The scene was self-contained: records came out on independent Zambian labels, and its range included rock, acid folk, fusion, Afro-beat, South African jazz and traditional Zambian melodies. Key names include WITCH, Paul Ngozi, Amanaz, Musi O Tunya and Ngozi Family; their music sounds unlike rock from elsewhere in Africa or the world.

Since 2010, the label Now-Again has been systematically reissuing the essential records of this scene. The new release is the first commercial edition of a Ngozi Family album that never got past the test-press stage. It is part of an extensive campaign centered on Paul Ngozi and his band, with all releases licensed directly from the estates of Paul Ngozi and Chrissy Zebby Tembo.
