La Bola Negra (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the score and song album for Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi’s 2026 film of the same name, issued digitally by Lakeshore Records on 16 October 2026. The film premiered in competition at Cannes, where the directors won Best Director, opened in Spain on 25 September, and is being released in the US by Netflix. It follows three gay men across 1932, 1937 and 2017, drawing on Federico García Lorca’s unfinished play and Alberto Conejero’s La piedra oscura.
The music is by Raül Refree, a Barcelona producer and composer known for his work with Rosalía, Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Niño de Elche, who had already scored the directors’ series La Mesías. According to Mússica, he spent more than a year on the score, sometimes working from the set, and built three distinct timbral worlds for the three eras that gradually converge. A trumpet runs through the characters and time periods as a narrative thread.
The album also carries the film’s songs. Penélope Cruz sings two period numbers, María Terremoto joins Refree on a seguiriya, and Guitarricadelafuente, who also made his acting debut in the film, performs “La nieve”, co-written with Refree. The record opens with “Se han equivocado” and closes with two versions of “Mira que nos acechan”, the last for solo piano. Refree’s version of “Soldadito español” with Judeline is reported to follow later.
